Dillard, who won the gold medal in her event with a leap of 38 3 on her final attempt at the Region IV meet, had a rough time at last year’s state meet, fouling on five of her attempts. She’s hoping this year goes much smoother.

"Last year was kinda shaky," Dillard said. "I scratched most of them. I am more determined. I can’t over think. I have to trust my marks."

Langan and Williams are making their first appearances. However, Langan got an idea of what to expect during the fall after advancing to the 5A cross country meet.

Although it will be a different setting, the competition still gave the Johnson athlete an idea of what to expect.

"I’m confident, but there’s a lot of competition at state," said Langan, who won broke a 28 year old regional record in the 3,200 meter run with a 10:41.51.

"Going in cross country helped me. I learned you have to run your own race. You don’t want to get caught up with everything else."

Clark wrapped up the series by rallying for a 7 6 eight inning victory.

The series appeared to be heading to a third game as New Braunfels owned a 6 3 lead in the seventh. With two outs, Nash slapped a two run single and followed with a game tying solo home run.

In the eighth, Coveney, who picked up the victory on the mound, walked and scored on Nash’s sacrifice fly.

"We never stopped believing," Clark coach said.

"The kids kept playing with heart and confidence. It was exciting, because we have never got past the second round. The kids were aware of that and they wanted to be there."
